3 Easy Ways to Save During a COVID-19 Lockdown
We all saw this coming – a dreaded SECOND lockdown! Back into the sweats we go, with our UberEats on the way and a fresh heap of Amazon boxes in transit from a stress-induced splurge. As comforting (and I will admit, fun) as these new habits might be, they can be destructive to our wallets.
The one silver lining to these lockdowns is the actual concept of locking down. We can’t go out to dinner with our friends, we can’t go shopping, we can’t go to movies or concerts. What we can do is use that money that we would be spending during a normal, non-COVID lifestyle and start saving.
The average UberEats meal for 2 is $50.
The average movie ticket is somehow $20 now, plus inexplicably expensive concessions.
The average Amazon order value was $45-50 in 2019.
How about trying the following and seeing how much you can save:
Buy your own wine and make your own dinner. Even an inexperienced chef can make a delicious dinner for under $5 per serving. I recommend a website called BudgetBytes.com for cheap recipe ideas. And let’s be honest, wine all tastes the same between $10-20 so why not look lower on the shelf?
You are already paying for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime or all 3 of those. Enjoy this gift of nowhere to be and dive into a new series or some movies that have been on your list forever. Redbox costs $2 per night and renting from Comcast is usually $5 if you need to splurge on a newer movie.
Wean yourself off unnecessary items from Amazon during the lockdown. Now put that money in your savings account! You will thank yourself at the end of this lockdown when you have a cushion in your savings account instead of every item from Oprah’s Favorite Things.
